The Position
The Regional Training Recruitment and Placement Coordinator is a key position in the launch and delivery of the new training program by engaging with community partners. The position-holder will target the recruitment of Ontarians who have experienced difficulties in the labour market in the Toronto, Hamilton, Kawartha and Muskoka regions and are looking to start their careers in the landscape & horticulture industry. The training program will be designed and implemented based on feedback and engagement with local employers in which selected participants will be prepared with the knowledge, skills and experience to successfully enter the industry in identified in-demand entry level positions. The program will be designed and led by Landscape Ontario, the provincial industry association representing 2600 industry employers from across the province.
This position
is responsible for coordinating and participating in building relationships, performing proactive outreach in order to promote the training program and recruit eligible candidates who have the motivation, interests and core- competencies to be successful in the industry. In addition to participant screening and selection, this position will work in tandem with the Lead Training Recruitment and Placement Coordinator in collaboration with the Industry Partnership and Engagement Specialist to identify in-demand jobs and design, develop and deliver relevant employment soft skills and job preparation skills curriculum to support participant success such as how to interview, what to expect on-the-job, how to mitigate and manage workplace issues, explore career pathways and pursue meaningful work. This position will work with the Training Recruitment and Placement Coordination team in designing the selection criteria based on industry employer feedback. In addition, there will be regular connection to and collaboration with the Employment Ontario network to attract, recruit, provide wrap around supports and serve job seekers. In addition to matching candidates and supporting them in securing employment with local employers, the TRTRPC will work with the team to perform retention follow-up supports once participants are placed with and working for employers in order to monitor progress and mitigate issues proactively. The Toronto and Kawartha/Muskoka – Regional Training Recruitment and Placement Coordinator will work with the Technical Training Instructional Team to deliver the Employment and Technical training curriculum in tandem over 4 weeks in the respective regions.
Specifically, this position will be responsible for:
Achieving project goals assigned to the regional teams
Building proactive partnerships with local employment system partners and organizations in order to recruit and identify program training participants who have experienced barriers to employment (prioritizing Ontario Works and ODSP recipients, as well as recent newcomers, at-risk youth etc.) interested in building careers in the Landscape / Horticulture sector;
Developing Project “Brand” Awareness strategies for the program to attract key talent and attract key employers as well as promote the program for the potential second year
Contributing to the development of systematic processes and frameworks to enable the delivery of services as required
Supporting administration of the participant recruitment information processes and sessions and represent Landscape Ontario and provide an overview of the career opportunities and a day in the life of someone in an entry level position in the landscape and horticulture industry;
Supporting Employment Ontario Information System recording obligations.
Working with the team to develop the screening and selection process of eligible participants who have the interest, motivation and core competencies to be successful;
Administering baseline in-take assessments;
Supporting and building partnerships with local services to make referrals to housing, childcare services and required wrap around supports as needed;
Building relationships with local employers through the LO network.
Matching/ placing program participants based on fit and local employer needs with the goal of placing all successful participants in employment;
Data administration of participant information on EOIS-CaMS system while observing accuracy and information security protocols;
Performing follow-up, and provide retention supports to monitor progress of post- employment placement;
Evaluating performance management data & retention data from placements to generate recommendations for the next administration of the project (Year 2)
Working in tandem with the team to develop, prepare and implement employment curriculum and coaching materials in partnership with the Technical Training Instructors to support participants with required employability soft skills;
Building presentation decks summarizing key achievements of the program as it progresses that is readily available for all Stakeholders to access as “updates”
Contributing to the Employers of Choice program to support retention capacity of program participants within participating businesses;
Proactively troubleshooting issues that arise;
Participating in and implementing continuous improvement activities during the life of the project;
Preparing and presenting program communication materials aimed at community partners, employers and participants;
Supporting project administration and report preparation;
Other responsibilities as required.
The successful candidate will possess:
A minimum of 2 years of proven experience in employment counselling, training, recruitment and placement;
The ability to develop, implement, streamline and manage processes and workflow as the lead in a team environment;
Clear professional written and verbal communication, presentation and facilitation skills;
The ability to work in a team environment to implement and adapt programs;
The ability to understand and identify the core requirements and competencies of in-demand jobs, with a focus on the core requirements;
Have experience and /or a strong capacity to work with disadvantaged job seekers who have a history of poverty and other barriers to employment;
Commitment to inclusive workforce practices;
Very strong ability to build rapport and demonstrate empathy and non-judgement for program participants;
Ability to build relationships with industry employers and to understand operational business needs;
Previous experience working with business in an operations, sales or workforce/HR capacity is a strong asset;
Ability to work independently with minimal direction;
Attention to project timelines and deadlines;
A resourceful approach to problem solving;
Strong organizational and project coordination skills – the ability to coordinate and manage multiple deliverables and priorities;
Strong collaboration and team development skills;
The ability to proficiently use MS Office Suite, the Employment Ontario Information System, databases and learn new computer skills is a very strong asset;
Knowledge of community-based organizations that serve low-income people is a strong asset.
Knowledge of the Ontario Works, ODSP, housing and or corrections system is a strong asset.
Knowledge of the Landscape and Horticulture sector is a strong asset;
Ability to travel to program locations;
Ability to adapt and evolve with the needs of the project.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range is $60,000 – $70,000 based on experience.
