 Maternity Leave Receptionist Contract Position

A First Nation is seeking for a full-time Receptionist to cover an approximate 12-month maternity leave. Reports to the Senior Administrative Officer (SAO).

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Manage switchboard, answer calls in a timely and professional manner, transfer and/or take messages.
Provide support and assistance to the SAO, Chief and Council and Administration Staff with administrative duties as required.
Maintain and get service for photocopier and other office equipment.
Mail: Pick up, distribute, maintain a mail database and keep postage meter filled.
Greet members and direct to appropriate services or meeting group.
Keep inventory of office supplies and order as needed.
Keep records and sign out sheet for outgoing cheques.
Assist with finance related and administrative related paperwork.
Prepare newsletter and organize distribution of.
Organize distribution process for flyers/notices, etc.

Skills and Attributes:

Excellent computer knowledge, expertise with Microsoft Office Suite 2013.
Office administration knowledge.
Minimum of three years’ experience and a typing speed of 40 wpm.
Knowledge of First Nation issues.
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (written and verbal).
Experience working in an office setting.
Must have own transportation and a valid driver’s license.

Experience Requirements:

Experience working in a First Nation’s environment would be an asset and preferred.
High School Dogwood certificate or equivalent preferred.
Any workplace office certificates would be an asset.
Punctual, friendly, enthusiastic, with a positive attitude.
Experience working as a receptionist or other office positions.
Ability to work within a team environment is essential.
Exceptional organizational skills.

Working Conditions

The Receptionist position will be in the front office of a First Nation and will be full time (8:30 am to 4:30 pm) Monday through Friday for an approximate term of 12 months.

Depending upon experience and skill sets. Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal candidates in accordance with Section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code.
