Provincial Coordinator
For over 25 years the Health Coalition has been a leading voice in progressive health care policy in Nova Scotia. We are a non-partisan organization which fights to protect, expand, and strengthen public healthcare in Nova Scotia and across the country.
We are looking for an experienced, energetic, and hard-working activist to serve as the Nova Scotia Health Coalition’s next Provincial Coordinator.
The Provincial Coordinator leads a diverse coalition of healthcare workers, patients, researchers, and concerned citizens in the fight for improved and expanded universal health care and against privatization. The Provincial Coordinator also works closely with other organizations and allies.
The Provincial Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing the Health Coalition’s political action and advocacy work throughout the province, in consultation with the Health Coalition’s executive committee and board of directors.
Working with the Health Coalition is an opportunity to play a leadership role in meaningful work that has the potential to have an impact on people’s lives, and to engage in full-time political and advocacy work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be an experienced activist, ideally with a proven track record for building and maintaining broad coalitions and planning and implementing well informed and effective campaigns. The successful candidate will have a wide range of skills in research, analysis, public policy, and communications with the capacity to work independently.
As the primary spokesperson for the Health Coalition, the Provincial Coordinator must be skilled in media relations and interviews for television, radio, and print. In addition, the Provincial Coordinator will have knowledge of the politics and social movements of Nova Scotia, and the capacity to build an expertise in health care policy. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and must be legally entitled to drive in Nova Scotia.
Location and travel: The Provincial Coordinator will work in the Health Coalition’s office in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The position requires regular travel throughout the province and occasionally to locations across Canada. While there is the possibility of some flexibility with working from home, this position is not appropriate for someone looking to work remotely.
Hours and vacation: 35 hours per week with the expectation of some work on evenings and weekends. The annual benefits include four weeks paid vacation,14 paid holidays, as well as additional days off during the December holiday season.
Compensation: This is a permanent position with an annual salary of $55,237. In lieu of healthcare and pension benefits, the position provides an annual taxable benefit of $4,500. This position is unionized with UNIFOR Local 4606.
