ROLE SUMMARY:
LUSH Valley is looking for a Program Assistant to support the Good Food Box, Fruit Tree, Farm Gleaning, Hot Meal, and Catering programs. Primary tasks in this role include managing volunteers, sorting and packing produce, supporting harvest events, preparing and serving food, and driving as required.
The successful candidate must have a Class 5 drivers license (Class 7 will be considered), be comfortable driving a van, and have a clean driver’s abstract. Candidates should be skilled at problem-solving, communicating, reporting data, and working a part of a team. Passion for local food systems is an asset. The ideal candidate has a diverse skill set that allows them to work in various programs, and with diverse groups. This role will report directly to the Food Access Manager.

Excellent communication skills
Experience with cooking, food preparation, and/or food service
Working knowledge of Google Workspace
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
FoodSafe Level 1
Clear criminal record check
Class 5 driver’s license with a clear driver’s abstract
Basic first aid an asset
Farming and food system knowledge an asset
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receiving, sorting, and packing produce in the LUSH Valley warehouse
Managing volunteers
Picking-up produce from farms and farmers’ markets
Delivering Good Food Boxes
Coordinating volunteers on farms, on orchards and in backyards across the Comox Valley
Recording statistics and completing administrative tasks
Supporting food preparation and service at events
Working with the Food Access Manager to debrief and plan
As required, assisting with food preparation, fundraising events, and outreach
