Job Description/Responsibilities:
The Private Land Stewardship Coordinator will work under the direction of the Program Manager in a supportive and cooperative team environment. The Private Land Stewardship Coordinator will be responsible for leading and/or assisting with the delivery of a variety of projects that focus on different ecosystems or land-use types, including agro-ecosystems, sand barrens (sandplain heathland), and private woodlots. The candidate will be required to engage members of the public in stewardship programs and activities primarily focused within the Annapolis River watershed, but in some cases projects may extend across Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will be required to use their personal vehicle for work travel and will be compensated according to the prevailing provincial milage rate.
This position will require a mix of office and fieldwork. The candidate must have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and be comfortable working with members of the public and partners from external organizations.

Specific tasks may include:
The identification and execution of strategies for effective landowner engagement in CARP programs;
Participation in public outreach events to support landowner engagement;
Planning and delivery of school-based or extra-curricular educational programs;
Citizen science volunteer training;
Field-based assessments such as general habitat assessments, species at risk surveys, or riparian health assessments;
Site identification, planning and coordination for habitat restoration and enhancement activities;
Habitat restoration or enhancement activities such as tree planting or fence installation;
Coordination with external partners to deliver collaborative projects, identify project synergies or partnership opportunties;
Report writing for a variety of audiences, including project funders, private landowners, or members of the public;
Produce maps using GIS for planning or reporting purposes;
Research and data synthesis or analysis;
Represent CARP at workshops, meetings or conferences;
Participation in staff meetings and project planning meetings as required.

Qualifications:
College or university degree in a related field (environmental science, biology, agriculture, forestry, etc.)
A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Excellent communication skills
General knowledge of Nova Scotia’s biodiversity
Competency in a variety of computer software programs for word processing, data entry/analysis, and graphic design

Preferred experience:
Forest or agricultural land management or extension
Habitat restoration and enhancement
Report or technical writing
Data entry, processing and analysis
Workshop or event planning and/or facilitation
Mapping or other applications using ArcGIS
Experience working within southwest Nova Scotia
Additional information:
Preference may be given to applications who have been pre-approved for the Eco Canada Internship Program or other similar funding programs, or to candidates who may be eligible for these programs
