The City of Fort St. John is seeking to fill a permanent full-time Planner I position. This position is responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of land use planning projects, subdivision processing, sustainability initiatives, policy work and a wide variety of land use applications. A thorough knowledge of related Acts and Regulations, planning processes and best practices is necessary.
This position requires an individual with vision and the ability to think strategically about the future direction and growth of our City. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders while maintaining positive relationships. This position will play a key role in the current and long range planning activities. The Planner I coordinates assigned activities with other City Departments, public and private agencies, all while fostering cooperative working relationships through community engagement.
Qualified candidates should have a college or university diploma or degree in land use planning, urban planning, landscape architecture or a closely related field. A minimum of three years’ experience in municipal planning as a planning technologist or higher level is required. Must be eligible for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners and possess a valid class 5 BC driver’s license.
