Pipelayer / Fitter II – District of Saanich

The Storm and Wastewater Section of the Public Works Division is seeking two Pipelayer/fitters for skilled and technical manual work in the construction and maintenance of underground drainage and sewer infrastructure. The Pipelayer/fitter II is relied on as the senior skilled technician for guidance, instruction, and training in manual on-site construction work. As a senior team member, the incumbent is required to stay abreast of construction projects as supervisory responsibilities will be delegated.

Requirements include Grade 12 or equivalent; EOCP Level I Wastewater Collection Certificate; minimum one year related experience in a storm water/wastewater system/facility including experience as a pipelayer/fitter; experience and/or training as a supervisor; valid B.C. Class 3 driver’s licence with air brake endorsement; annual renewal of driver’s abstract; possession of a valid Traffic Control Certificate, a valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certification and training in confined space entry and HDPE welding and fusing. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All successful candidates must demonstrate sufficient ability and knowledge of the operation of pipe bursting equipment and working with hydraulic equipment, must have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of heavy manual work in all weather conditions and must work in close proximity or contact with raw sewage.
