Trout Lily produces a wide range of certified organic vegetable, herb and flower transplants for sale to home gardeners. Trout Lily is currently looking for an individual to fill a position as a grower assistant, mainly for the critical months of April and May. A second “helper” position will be available on a flexible basis to assist on key days from mid-April through May.
(1) Grower Assistant Position – full-time, short term (approx. two months)
Duties (training provided):
seeding, transplanting & watering
tracking crop production information
assembling orders
venting greenhouses
monitoring for pests & disease
marketing at farmers’ market
Skills required:
self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic & desire to learn
excellent attention to detail
ability to reliably take notes, track & relay information
good communication skills
flexibility to work long hours some days
ability to oversee/coordinate others
friendly/helpful outlook when dealing with customers
a green thumb is an asset!
(2) Helper position – will involve helping the grower/owner and grower assistant with the duties listed above.
Pay:
Grower Assistant – $12.00/ hr to $14.00/hr per hour depending on experience & performance;
Helper – $11/hr
there is an option of on-farm lodging (though preference will be given to candidates with own lodgings and transportation), pay scale will be adjusted if on-farm lodging is required
Where: 20 min. NE of Guelph, ON (half way between Rockwood & Fergus)
When:
a) Grower Assistant – end March to early June, ranging from three/four days at beginning to five/six days per week at height of season
b) Helper – mid April through May, flexible on an as-needed basis (could vary from two to five days per week), will typically be full eight hour work days
