The New Westminster Police Department is seeking an experienced Office Assistant. In this role, you will perform moderately complex clerical support related to the Recruiting and Training sections. This position will spend 60% of the time (3 days per week) supporting the Recruiting Section and 40% of the time (2 days per week) in the Training Section. Duties include but not limited to coordinating assessments, scheduling interviews and training sessions, preparing confidential and non-confidential correspondence, responding to inquiries, filing and other related duties. The work entails extensive contact with the public and employees requiring the exercise of considerable confidentiality, tact and diplomacy. Adherence to established practices and procedures is required. If you have a minimum of three years of related experience, we are interested in hearing from you.
REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of Grade 12 including related post-secondary courses in recruitment and selection and/or office administration; and sound related experience in a similar role. An equivalent combination of education and experience as acceptable to the employer may be considered.
Ability to process confidential matters and materials; supply information and assistance within defined limits, explain regulations and procedures.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively work under pressure at times.
Ability to perform complex and time sensitive clerical assignments as well as data entry with accuracy.
Ability to prepare, maintain and control a variety of records, files and related data.
Ability to establish relationships and work effectively with the public, other employees, and officials.
Superior clerical aptitude, ability to operate a variety of common office equipment and knowledge of word processing equipment and software including Microsoft Word, Windows, Excel and Outlook (Minimum typing speed of 45 wpm).
Ability to pass and maintain a comprehensive Police background security clearance.
