This position is responsible for providing Utility Services to the municipality in accordance with government regulations and standards through the coordination and supervision of the work of Utility Operators engaged in performing work primarily to operate and maintain the natural gas distribution system and secondarily, to operate and maintain the water treatment plant, the water distribution system, the wastewater treatment plant, sanitary and storm water collection systems.
Responsibilities:
Operation and maintenance of the Natural Gas Utility Systems:
Organize daily duties of operators within the utility department;
Day to day purchasing, and hiring of necessary equipment to allow for the proper operation of the system within the budget guidelines;
Implement utility services plans, budget, and operational projects within the County;
Development of preventative maintenance program to ensure day to day operations meet the needs of users;
Ensure tasks and duties are completed in compliance with the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-Ops Operations and Maintenance Practices;
Work with the Waterworks Foreman in directing an “On-Call” system for non-working hours and emergencies of the department;
Responsible for collecting data for the GIS system;
Keep mapping of utilities updated;
Ensure all reports are submitted to the appropriate agencies in regards to construction forecasts, construction applications, etc. with direction from the Manager;
Assist Utility Manager in the preparation and updating of long term plans for equipment replacement, natural gas distribution system replacement, and upgrading;
Inspection of construction on capital projects to ensure County general municipal servicing standards are adhered to;
Maintain good public relations, responding in a professional manner to all inquiries, concerns or complaints;
Directly ensure appropriately experienced and certified staff are available at all times to deal with any gas leaks, water breaks, or any emergencies that may arise;
Assist Waterworks Foreman with monthly safety meeting to address safety issues, and update safe work procedures as well as hazard assessments;
Directly ensure staff complete training courses as necessary to maintain their required safe work certifications;
Maintain a safe and practical working environment;
Provide leadership and guidance to staff;
Ensure succession planning is included in staffing plans.
Qualifications:
Grade 12 Diploma;
Provincial qualification for operating a natural gas utility system;
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
Good understanding of the installation and repairs of natural gas distribution systems;
2-3 years supervisory experience in a natural gas utility field;
Demonstrated ability to supervise a diversity of positions, both for in house staff, and contractors;
Candidate must have supervisory skills and the ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently;
The successful candidate will be required to provide a criminal record check, driver’s abstract, and a medical assessment.
Salary range $69,813.34 to $86,426.58 annually
