OUTLINE OF POSITION:
The Department of Culture and Lands Protection oversees the use, management, administration and protection of Tlicho lands, renewable and non-renewable resources. Working under supervision from the Manager, Lands Protection and with direction from the Director, the Land Use Planner is responsible for the implementation of the Tlicho Land Use Plan, administration of land use issues, and for participating on special projects as directed.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Post-secondary degree in related field and work experience in regional land use planning, natural resource and/or environmental management or equivalent education and experience
Strong understanding, familiarity of land and resource management and mapping systems, in the Northwest Territories and of the applicable legislative, regulatory, institutional framework, especially the land use permitting and water licensing processes
Familiarity with conducting technical reviews of environmental applications and submissions for mining and industrial developments, and royalty and own source revenue estimating and monitoring, concepts and techniques of land and resource management in northern Canada
Highly developed analytic, practical reasoning and problem solving abilities
Good interpersonal, communication, organizational, management, budget and computer skills
Positive attitude, collaborative work ethicand the ability to work as a member of a team
Sensitivity to and willingness to be guided by Tlicho geographic, land and resource, traditional knowledge and other Tlicho priorities
Ability to work with Tlicho citizens, residents and speak Tlicho language is an asset
Familiarity with Tlicho Agreement, Tlicho Constitution, Tlicho language, culture and way of life
