Job Description:
This position oversees the daily operations of the Youth Climate Corps program in Kamloops.The Kamloops Coordinator will work closely with the City of Kamloops to deliver a home climate resilience program. With direction from the YCC Program Manager and in collaboration with the City of Kamloops and external partners, the Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the Kamloops YCC program is running smoothly and meeting goals set for the program overall, particular projects, crew members, community partners, funders, and others as relevant. The Coordinator will supervise and work alongside five Climate Action Technicians, as well as facilitate learning opportunities. The Coordinator is responsible for building and upholding an inclusive workspace with a sense of belonging for all involved in the YCC Kamloops program. All of the work will apply an equity lens to prioritize projects that serve communities disproportionately affected by the climate crisis.
The YCC Kamloops project is a pilot project. The applicant must be comfortable with problem solving, troubleshooting, uncertainty, and program review and reporting.

Duties will include:
Working with community partners:
YCC strives to build collaborative partnerships with aligned organizations that will better support the communities we serve.
Build relationships with stakeholders and Indigenous rights holders in the community.
Find meaningful opportunities to support climate action projects in Kamloops
Recruitment and staff management:

Recruit, interview and provide training and onboarding for five Climate Action Technicians
Maintain a inclusive work space with a strong sense of belonging and community
Provide feedback, monitor performance, and provide learning opportunities for the Climate Action Technicians. Facilitation experience is an asset.
Project Management:

The coordinator will work with the City of Kamloops and project partners to plan, organize, and direct the completion of specific projects while ensuring these projects are on time, on budget, and within scope.
Ensure a safe working environment per WorkSafeBC standard:
Ensure the health and safety of all workers under your direct supervision.
Know the WorkSafeBC requirements that apply to the work under your supervision and make sure those requirements are met.
Ensure workers under your supervision are aware of all known hazards.
Ensure workers under your supervision have the appropriate personal protective equipment, which is being used properly, regularly inspected, and maintained.
Foster a working culture of belonging, inclusion, and a positive learning environment. Experience with conflict resolution and group culture building is an asset.
Facitate and deliver the YCC core curriculum.

Qualifications and Requirements:
Must live in the Kamloops area (or be willing to relocate on short notice). Strong familiarity with the area, its communities, and local activities relating to climate change and anti-oppressive justice work are strengths.
Asset to have pre-existing relationships with local groups and organizations leading climate action and justice work in Kamloops.

Experience, knowledge and passion for the following areas:
Group leadership and facilitation: Cultivating positive, inclusive, and productive group dynamics
Project management: Keeping many moving parts organized
Training/teaching: Helping diverse people learn new things and learning alongside them
Relationship building: Being an ambassador to the wider community
Communications: Telling impactful stories through various mediums
Program development: creating a program with progression, learning opportunities, and engaging and exceptional experiences
Familiarity with climate change, climate action, and anti-oppressive justice work and related fields such as food security, systemic inequality, energy, forestry, ecology, extractive capitalism, and others.
Be able to work independently and within a team.
Candidates 35 years old or younger may be preferred due to youth-specific program funding sources and to support our vision of youth leadership, though older candidates will also be considered.
Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
