Honeyhouse Retail and Production Assistant – Nith Valley Apiaries Inc. – Ontario

What does this job entail?
The Retail & Production Assistant job is full time; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (8:45 to 5:30) and one or two Saturdays per month (8:45 to 12 (summer store hours are 9:00 to 2:00)).
The Retail & Production Assistant will be responsible for whatever nuances of the Honey House store on the Nith Valley Apiaries Inc. (NVA) premises that they are asked to take care of.
This will include serving drop in customers with jarand pail refills from honey tanks and helping them select their honey, ensuring accessibility for all, and managing store stock. This is a full-time position in Retail, Production and will likely spread over into some marketing and office related tasks.
Have knowledge and understanding of the operations at NVA and the beekeeping industry and the livelihood of the bees. This is also knowledge that will evolve over time of working in this field.
Bottling honey for wholesale orders. This includes preparing the workspace for optimal efficiency in bottling work and line. Gain an understanding of the labeling criteria, lot coding and importance of accurate labelling. Have an eye for detail and consistency in product quality and finished product look.

Specific Tasks (but not limited to)
A) Customer Service
Implement discrete friendly strategies to attract customers and assist in their needs. Communicate with customers and evaluate their needs.
Honey House money handling during sales transactions.
Ability to use Shopify POS app on ipad.
Ensuring the store is well stocked with product for sales.
Communicate to Retail Manager and/or Proprietor when honey in tanks is low.
Maintain cleanliness of store interior/outdoor, entrance patio and gardens.
Ability to lift 50lbs.
Ability to be on foot most of the day.
Asssist with wholesale customer pickup when necessary.
Grounds-keeping assistance as delegated by the proprietor. Honey House gardens are under the responsibility of Honey house staff.
Ability to work independently in an efficient manner.
Attention to product sales and and reconize customers preferences. Ability to recognize any slow-moving products and make the necessary changes to marketing /placement / layout to draw attention on product.
B) Honey Bottling
Preparing the workspace for optimal efficiency in bottling work and line.
Have an understanding of the labeling criteria, lot coding and importance of accurate and consistent labelling.
Have an eye for detail and consistency in product quality and finished product look.
Ability conduct production tasks consistently and in a timely manner.
Ability to stop and serve a customer if needed as the production and retail store are in an open concept layout.
C) Social Media

Assist with brainstorming, ideas, images, preparation work for social media.
D) Retail and Product Handling
Stocking retail shelves with all products.
Creamed & flavoured honey production.
Comb and chunk honey packaging.
Wax melting and pouring off into moulds.
Report inventory needs for jars, candles, etc. to Retail Manager/ Operations Manager.
E) Office Assistance

cross training in the office for customer email response and invoicing will be suggested.
Wage begins at $17/hour and is negotiable according to skills and work ethic presented.
