Roles and responsibilities:
The role of the GreenForceTO Community Ambassador is to:
Understand the value and function of green infrastructure in the city and particularly in the wards of their interest;
Steward green streets sites within their wards of interest; through the facilitation of events such as community clean-ups and community tours
Engage with community members, businesses and institutions to raise awareness about green infrastructure, recruit participants to events associated with GreenForceTO and receive project feedback
Raise awareness in the community of careers in landscape & horticulture maintenance.
A GreenForceTO Community Ambassador will commit to:
Attend three online meetings and up to three community events or in-person meetings. Online meetings will take place on a day and time agreeable to all, consisting of a kick-off in May, and an update in July and a final meeting in October. Events and in-person meetings will be scheduled based on Ambassador availability and public interest.
Support with the planning, promotion and delivery of community events, recruiting at least 10 community members for each event.
Engage with community members, businesses and institutions to advance the objectives of GreenForceTO.
Attend at least 60% of the training sessions.
Notify the project manager in a timely manner if any matter arises which may be deemed to affect the project.
A GreenForceTO Community Ambassador can expect to:
receive accurate and meaningful information in a timely manner;
receive resources and materials required to undertake the specified tasks
be given reasonable time to make key decisions;
be alerted to potential risks and issues that could impact the project as they arise.
5. Composition
There will be five (5) GreenForceTO Community Ambassadors selected for this year’s project. Ambassadors will be selected to represent the diversity of neighbourhoods within the City of Toronto, as well as by their green streets location of interest. Community outreach experience is an asset. The project team will prioritize applications conducive to the creation of an inclusive committee.
6. Scope / Governance
The role of the GreenForceTO Community Ambassador is to support the pilot project to achieve success on the agreed upon performance indicators. This role is limited to the scope of the project.
The GreenForceTO Community Ambassador will work respectfully together under the framework of the City of Toronto’s Anti-Harassment/Discrimination Legislation.
7. Acknowledgement
With permission, each Green Streets Ambassador will be publicly acknowledged and will receive an honorarium of $500 for their time and expertise. A first payment of $250 will be issued by August 2023. A final payment of $250 will be issued at the completion of the season.
