Position Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Fundraising & Engagement Coordinator (FEC) who can help us grow by creating and fostering strong relationships with First Nations and all levels of government, local organizations, businesses, and citizens to ensure the natural wealth we enjoy in the Yukon today is conserved sustainably for future generations.
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED) and the Outreach & Communications Manager (OCM), the FEC is responsible for participating in the creation and execution of YCS’ fundraising and communications strategies. The FEC will collaborate with our team on budgeting and financial management, create engagement opportunities for the public, coordinate outreach efforts, and maintain communication with members, volunteers, and supporters. Additionally, the FEC will assist the Executive Director, Board and staff in fundraising and organizational development.
Main Responsibilities
Fundraising (40%)
Collaborate with the Administrative Manager, ED and OCM in researching funding opportunities, drafting funding proposals, recording project progress, and editing and publishing final reports for core foundations and grants.
Ensure donation and membership application processing is completed, records are updated and the database is regularly maintained.
Write and send membership renewal reminders, receipts and coordinate thank yous.
Handle all questions, information requests, and issues regarding membership.
Collect membership data, track statistics, and prepare reports.
Maintain a database of volunteer information and hours.
Plan, promote and deliver fundraising campaigns and events with support from OCM.
Engagement (40%)
Communications
Collaborate with the OCM to develop, edit and distribute YCS publications such as Walk Softly (quarterly) and Tread Lightly (bi-weekly eNewsletter).
Strengthen YCS’ online presence by assisting the OCM in designing, promoting, and updating our environmental advocacy campaigns and overall messaging.
Update digital YCS events calendars (including local conservation-related events).
Assist the OCM in managing social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn & YouTube by sourcing and contributing engaging content regularly to keep followers informed of YCS updates, projects and events.
Seek out and reach out to potential partners and collaborators.
Outreach
Recruit and coordinate volunteers for YCS initiatives (Edible Garden, event support, etc.)
Represent YCS at outreach booths stationed at public events and markets (including the summer Fireweed Community Market), increasing YCS’ visibility.
Collaborate in the planning, organizing and delivering of YCS-hosted events (Bioblitzes, outdoor programming, themed-hike series, conservation conversations, workshops) and membership events (Summer BBQ, End of Year Party, AGM, etc.).
Provide OCM with administrative support for the Summer Interpretive Program.
Collaborate with YCS staff to cultivate connections with the community and ensure YCS initiatives are effectively reaching target audiences.
Other/Administrative (20%)
Work closely with the ED, OCM and Administrative Manager to manage project budgets and cash flow.
Participate in relevant project and team meetings and discussions, and prepare project and funding reporting as necessary.
Identify and apply for funding opportunities in collaboration with the YCS staff.
Ideal Candidate Background
The ideal candidate for this position will have a post-secondary degree in communications, outreach, marketing, or a related field. They should be an experienced campaigner or community manager with at least three years of experience in communications, fundraising, and environmental advocacy with similar non-profit organizations. Experience working with external stakeholders to develop successful campaigns is essential; a proven track record of engaging donors and cultivating relationships to secure major gifts is preferred. A combination of similar education and experience will be considered.
Additional assets include:
Experience working or volunteering effectively in a small, geographically dispersed area, with a multi-disciplinary team and with Indigenous-led organizations.
Experience working in the Yukon or other northern jurisdictions and experience working in the not-for-profit or academic sector.
Strong organizational, budgeting and record-keeping skills.
A seasoned understanding of fundraising and engagement strategies.
Knowledge of conservation in the Yukon (including the influences of legislation, policy and modern treaties) or a willingness to learn.
Independent, driven, yet able to cooperate in collaborative decision-making.
Exceptional verbal, written and visual communications skills.
Experience working or volunteering with Indigenous-led organizations, First Nations governments and/or communities.
Fluency with computers including Google Workspace & Microsoft Office Suite.
Website and graphic design skills (Squarespace, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
A passion for education, outreach and social media content creation.
Familiarity with budgeting, CRM (ie. Mailchimp) and Donor Management Systems.
A valid driver’s license and/or access to a vehicle is preferred.
Logistics
Wage: $ 25.50 / hour.
Hours: This is a full-time position, with a standard 37.5-hour work week.
Schedule & Location: Our office is open Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM. This position might involve occasional travel in the Whitehorse area and within the Yukon as well as evening and weekend work every now and then. You will be working alongside the YCS team from the Parnell House, at 302 Hawkins Street in Whitehorse.
Vacation: 3 weeks of vacation and 2 weeks of paid time off at the end of the calendar year (as per YCS’s Personnel Policy), plus 14 Statutory Holidays.
Benefits: You’ll receive a semi-annual self-administered employer cash contribution.
Duration: This is a one-year contract with the possibility of extension, contingent on funding availability.
