The Role:
In the role of Food Security Worker (1-year contract), you will be the ambassador of WCSS’s Food Security Initiatives. You will be on the ground assisting the Food Bank, engaging with clients, processing and distributing donated food.
Using your passion for community and food security, you will handle, store and pack food donations. You will be on the ground assisting the Food Bank and other Food Security Programs engaging with clients, processing and distributing donated food.
You will be working 32-40 hours a week over 4 to 5 days.
Some responsibilities of this role includes*:
Driving the Food Bank Vehicle to do food recovery from grocery stores
Delivering food to clients.
Weighing, sorting & processing food donations
Preparing dry & fresh food bags for food bank
Kitchen work-preparing food, snacks to be distributed at schools
Front-line service during food bank drop-in & appointment days.
Assembling meal kits and delivering to clients and donors.
Supporting all food security programs including: Food Bank, School Breakfast & Lunch program, KidsCanCook, Food Skills & Nutrition & more.
What you bring:
Vulnerable Criminal Record Check is required
Clean driver’s record/abstract is required
A flexible, approachable and good problem solver
Experience cooking/prepping for large groups
Menu development familiar with providing variety
Able to lift up to 30- 40lbs
Able to tolerate prolonged standing
