About the Position
The Field Station Assistant will assist in the maintenance of dining, lecture, and accommodation areas and the implementation of programs and
activities with team members, volunteers, instructors and facilitators. The position will address local priorities through programs for diverse demographics (e.g. seniors, families, etc), including the promotion and enhancement of nature tourism, the arts, culture, fitness, and
heritage-focused workshops. Activities include:
Maintaining communal spaces and cabins,
Occasional group meal planning and preparation during workshops and events,
Managing accommodation rentals,
Managing the science lab and equipment,
Contributing to event and program planning when necessary,
Contributing to the development of a long-term management plan for the HLC
Overseeing and participating in tasks relating to guest comfort and experience during nature-based programs and events.
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
Currently enrolled in a degree or diploma program focusing on tourism (ideally eco-tourism), natural resource management, environmental science, environmental technology or similar field
Customer service and/or hospitality experience
Interest in working in a hands-on position with diverse day-to-day activities with a willingness to adapt to changing tasks
Interest in rural and outdoor living and/or environmental sustainability and education
Desire to be an essential member of a small team working towards the establishment of a sustainably-minded community
Preferred:
Experience in handy-work, repairs, or carpentry
Organized and self-motivated
Positive and enthusiastic attitude
Familiarity with Nova Scotia?s South Shore is an asset
