Farm Project Coordinator – Tsawwassen First Nations

Duties and responsibilities:
The Farm Project Coordinator will be responsible for:
Implementing approved plans to bring approximately one acre of land into production as a community farm
Assisting with set up of required infrastructure including irrigation and fencing
Setting up on-site composting systems
Implementing programs to support site fertility, including cover cropping
Installing infrastructure for year-round crop production, including high tunnels or hoop houses; set up small greenhouse for seed starts
Establishing facilities for post-harvest handling of crops, including washing stations and crop storage
Implementing Phase 1 and Phase 2 crop plans, including field prep, planting, maintenance and harvesting
Implement a distribution plan for harvested crops including establishing a Community Harvest Box program to provide freshly harvested produce to TFN members
Work with Community Liaison Coordinator to engage and train TFN members as volunteers to participate in farming and harvesting tasks; build skills
Providing training and supervise youth workers as staff to assist in farming operations
Setting up systems for tool and equipment storage and maintenance, keep farm and storage areas organized
Maintaining records of on-site activities; prepare quarterly report for management team

Qualifications:
Post-secondary education in agriculture, horticulture, or environmental field, and
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in crop production including
Experience with farm start up procedures including required infrastructure, establishing irrigation systems, and setting up on-site composting systems
Knowledge of soil, composting and organic farming practices
Self-motivated, flexible, with proven leadership skills
Be physically fit and used to working outside in all kinds of weather
Good communication skills
Experience with community outreach or working with volunteers
Terms: This is a full-time temporary contract position for 8 months March 15 through October 15, 2022.
