THE COMPANY
Yorkway Management Inc. (“Yorkway Management”) is the management company of the law firm Dale & Lessmann LLP (“D&L”). The administrative personnel of D&L is hired and remunerated by Yorkway Management. By way of background, D&L is a business law firm based in Toronto, Canada. The firm has one of Canada’s leading law practices devoted to advising European clients – in particular clients from Germany, Austria and Switzerland – with respect to the establishment and expansion of their businesses in the Canadian and NAFTA marketplace. Our clients carry on business in almost every industry sector.
As a result of our clients’ increasing interest and success in the Canadian business marketplace and our firm’s expertise, D&L has established a European Practice Group in the summer of 2007. Today, this practice group has grown to include four multi-lingual lawyers, a multi-lingual immigration consultant and multiple administrative support staff. All lawyers whose practices are devoted to providing legal advice to German, Austrian and Swiss companies are assisted by staff with German educational qualifications and native German language skills appropriate for a law firm environment.
POSITION SUMMARY
D&L is expanding its European Practice Group and we currently have an opening for an Executive Legal Assistant (German Speaking).
JOB DUTIES
Establishing and co-ordinating office procedures and daily routines, as well as partaking in the evaluation and implementation of new procedures;
Preparing legal correspondence and legal documents in English and German;
Establishing work priorities and administering office policies and procedures;
Identifying the needs of European clients, specifically those from German-speaking countries, and supporting European clients with their Canadian business dealings;
Providing assistance with business transaction in Canada and abroad for partners, associates and their European clients, in particular those from German-speaking countries;
Liaising with German-speaking clients on an ongoing basis;
Representing the firm to the public, by answering inquiries from potential clients, distributing information from potential clients internally, following-up with lawyers and clients to ensure that clients receive information within specified time frame which is consistent with the firm’s business development policies;
Preparing presentations for conferences and other business development initiatives, including the design of PowerPoint presentations and speaker notes;
Maintaining and updating the firm’s website;
Introducing new staff to office procedures and assisting with the learning of legal software applications;
Ensuring the timely payment of accounts receivable;
Organizing overseas and domestic business trips for senior partners, including travel arrangements and scheduling of meetings.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE)
Law degree from either a recognized Canadian or German University is mandatory.
Minimum of one (1) year of providing similar administrative support in both English and/or German, is mandatory.
Native German-language speaking skills, as appropriate for working in a law environment, is mandatory.
Working knowledge of the following software applications is mandatory: MS Office (Word, Word Perfect, Power Point, Excel, Outlook) and PCLaw.
