About the Role
Nipîy Tu Research and Knowledge Centre (NTRKC) is seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead our non-profit organization as it transitions from development to operational phases. The Executive Director will have overall strategic, financial and operational responsibility for the operations of NTRKC, including fundraising, staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. This includes the realization of social, cultural and economic benefits for communities; engaging partners and stakeholders, managing financial and human resources, operational programs and infrastructure as well as supporting the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will be the face of the organization in the community and will work to raise the profile of NTRKC. They will be responsible for driving the growth of our organization during a pivotal time in its development.
The Executive Director will support and report to the Board of Directors, and will be part of and supported by a Development Team consisting of an Action Plan Coordinator, Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Science and Monitoring Coordinator, and Community Engagement Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management, Fundraising and Resource Development: The Executive Director will lead our fundraising and resource development efforts, including government relations, donor cultivation, and partnership building, with the aim of securing and diversifying our funding sources and increasing our long-term financial sustainability. Activities include:
Develop and lead fundraising and revenue-generating activities to support existing program operations and expansion, build partnerships in new markets, establish relationships with funders, and political and community leaders
Monitor, support, and sustain the ongoing financial health of the organization, oversee the development and management of all NTRKC financial plans and annual budgets, review monthly and annual financial statements, and provide financial and statistical reports to the Board to support decision making.
Strategic Leadership: The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, guiding NTRKC’s direction and decision-making and supporting the Board of Directors in the operation of NTRKC. They will bring their expertise in nonprofit management and development, as well as in Indigenous knowledge-led research and cultural programming, ensuring that our organization operates efficiently and effectively as it moves towards becoming fully operational. Activities include:
Maintain and support a strong Board of Directors, overseeing and participating in select committees, and build board involvement with strategic direction for ongoing operations and research.
Apprise the Board on all sensitive and important internal and external matters pertaining to the development, programming, and operation of NTRKC and communicate board decisions.
Participate in the update of the existing strategic operational plan to guide successful fulfillment of the mission into the future, including annual financial and funding plans, communication plans, physical assets and facility plans, operating and program plans, human resource plans, and other formal plans, as deemed appropriate.
Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals, mission, vision, and programs of NTRKC.
Growing Capacity and Governance: The Executive Director will strengthen NTRKC’s organizational capacity, overseeing the growth of the operations, hiring and managing staff, and implementing best practices in governance and management. This will enhance our internal capacity, improve our efficiency, and enable us to scale our impact as we transition out of the development phase. Activities include:
Lead and participate in the development of policies and procedures governing NTRKC activities.
Communications, Community Engagement and Member Relations: The Executive Director will represent the community, assist in building strategic partnerships, engage with stakeholders, including community members, researchers, partners and others. This will greatly enhance our organization’s visibility, credibility and community support. Activities include:
Establish and maintain relationships with community leaders, funders, clients, community agencies, staff, and the community at large to ensure the mandate and business of NTRKC is understood.
Work with the Community Coordinator to ensure community members are meaningfully engaged in consultation processes, oversee the organizing of communications with community members and ensure timely responses to their questions regarding the operations of the NTRKC.
Represent NTRKC at external meetings, forums, and workshops as needed
Programmatic and Organizational Planning: The Executive Director will provide oversight and guidance to our programmatic activities, including our collaborative research and monitoring activities, ensuring that the results of our work are relevant and culturally meaningful to the communities that call the Delta home. Activities include:
Establish strategies for planning and coordinating operational priorities, including overseeing the implementation of work plans, achieving the results, and exercising delegated authority for all matters related to human resources.
Support the development of programming and ensure program excellence
Support the evaluation of programming ensuring accuracy and consistency
Qualifications:
A minimum of a four year postsecondary degree in a related discipline (example: Environmental Sciences, Business Administration). A Master’s Degree in a related discipline is considered an asset.
Eight to ten (8-10) years related experience, including three to four (3-4) years’ experience in a senior leadership position responsible for the overall management of an organization and staff of a non-profit
Experience running large fundraising campaigns for organizations, government departments or commercial enterprises with preference for Indigenous-led organizations and/or businesses.
Completion of related post-secondary courses to include general business management, human resource management, financial management, fundraising, non-profit management, strategic planning, conflict resolution, leadership and supervision, aboriginal leadership, report writing, and communications
Requirements
Must possess (or be willing to obtain) the following certificates: Driver’s License Class 5.
