The Sudbury Catholic District School Board is hiring supply/casual Educational Assistants to work on the Supply list on an as needed basis, to do replacement work; there is no guarantee of hours. Educational Assistants (EA) help deliver educational programs in elementary and secondary schools. They play an increasingly vital role in today’s classroom. The EA’s key role is to support individual students, or groups of students. They work under the guidance of teachers and under the supervision of the Principal. The EA is assigned subject to the Principal’s discretion, to meet the needs of specific students and/or program needs within the school.
REQUIREMENTS:
Post secondary diploma in Child and Youth Worker, Developmental Services Worker, Early Childhood Educator, Educational Assistant with a minimum of one year of recent related experience
Requires the ability to perform physical tasks, such as treatment programs, lifting, transferring and positioning students
Working knowledge of child development and teaching methods
Working knowledge of the IPRC process and IEP, as it relates to the planning and program needs of students
Ability to re-direct, model and provide appropriate programming for inappropriate behaviour;
Demonstrated ability to supervise in-school and out-of-school student activities as well as plan and organize activities for non-structured time
Effective interpersonal skills with proven ability to work as a member of a team;
Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
Computer literate with email and internet
Ability to provide regular attendance
Excellent problem solving, negotiation and mediation skills
Excellent discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to be sensitive to the needs of students with disabilities, and cultural differences
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Behaviour management certification
CPI certification
First Aid Certification & CPR Certification
Experience in a classroom setting would be considered an asset
