The ideal
candidate must have strong horticultural skills, be able to deliver excellent customer service, have leadership and interpersonal skills and have experience in the design and construction of landscaping solutions.
The Eco-landscaping Lead is the bridge between a team of Eco-landscapers and RainscapeTO’s Management. As the team supervisor, the Lead has to act as the main resource for all the eco-landscapers with regards to on-site communication, direction and conflict resolution. In absence of the Manager, the Eco-landscaping Lead also liaises with clients and partners, although decisions will need to be approved by the Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the team of eco-landscapers in the design, installation, and maintenance of residential and community eco-landscaping projects, including the following tasks:
Ensure Health and Safety Policies, code of conduct and regulations are followed
Ensure tools and equipment are maintained frequently and properly
Coordinate and schedule eco-landscaper shifts, including transportation of staff from office to project site.
Train and monitor eco-landscapers in landscaping techniques and materials and delegate tasks to them.
Keep track of employee timesheets, project expenses and supply needs.
Collect statistical & anecdotal data to assess project successes and barriers
Monitor staff behaviours and report to Manager on issues and opportunities for improvement
Support the Manager in scheduling of work, pricing and staffing.
Support the Manager in the coordination of site work with partners and outside service providers as needed (eg Green Gardeners Network)
Meet weekly with Manager to discuss progress and debrief on project operations
Meet weekly with Manager and eco-landscapers to discuss and fill out progress reports and additional paperwork
Support the Manager in planning and delivering a Professional Development Plan for eco-landscapers, including training and workshops.
Support the manager in business development activities such as attendance to eco-fair, delivery of workshops and talks.
Desired Qualifications and skills
Minimum 3 years experience in Horticultural/Landscaping
Strong eco-landscaping working knowledge, including garden design and implementation, plant ID, plant maintenance, growth cycles, deadheading, invasive species removal, shrub maintenance and soil amendment.
Strong leadership and communication skills, experience managing a team of eco-landscapers with diverse backgrounds and levels of experience.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to work in all weather conditions and in physically demanding tasks.
Full ‘G’ Drivers license.
Terms of employment and compensation
This is a full-time seasonal position starting inmediately and running to early November 2020, 35 hours a week. Part-time could be considered. The salary will be determined depending on qualification. Starting hourly rate is $25.
