Candidate Requirements
Strong background in working with children and youth in responsible leadership roles
Experience as a Camp Director, Head Counsellor, or equivalent child & youth leadership
Staff and volunteer management skills, including experience and confidence in working with youth, peers and adults
Experienced in or very comfortable working in a non-denominational, inclusive Christian setting
Good knowledge of summer camp structure, policy, and procedures
Good understanding of and experience in ensuring responsible, safe recreation principles
Current police check for work with the vulnerable sector required
Dedication to and understanding of environmental sustainability and eco-education, including renewable energy
Able to work in a self-directed manner with exceptional time management skills
Access to personal transportation between Ottawa and Rockland (some transportation provided)
High Five, WHMIS, First Aid & CPR C an asset
Description of Duties
Help coordinate and implement quality outdoor faith-based, environmental programming for children aged 5-13
Help recruit, train and supervise camp staff and volunteers (14 – 23+), with support from team
Develop and manage daily schedule for campers and staff/volunteers, with input from Executive Director, Registrar, Program Support, and History Animator
Review and enforce safety principles and procedures, including transportation, food preparation, pool protocols, outdoor activities, and general health and safety for all participants
Address any conflict or behavioural issues that may arise with campers or staff/volunteers
Assist with communications as needed
Help coordinate and lead training sessions for staff and volunteers, including camp protocols, safety procedures, inclusive faith stories, eco-education, abuse prevention and awareness, ages and stages of children’s development; bring in outside assistance with training when needed
Model the values of care and respect for all campers, staff, and volunteers, as well as care for Creation
Ensure activities are respectful of biodiversity, human diversity, and right relations.
Create camp report after season and assist with after-camp wrap-up
