Position Summary
The role of the Director of Operations is to work with the Executive Director (ED), Indigenous Climate Action team, and the ICA Executive Steering Committee (ESC) and National Steering Committee (SC) to secure operational excellence.
The Director of Operations (DOO) will take the lead in developing ICA’s foundation, processes, policies, and strategic planning. This person will support ICA to deliver essential core activities and to fulfill the organization’s mission and values to make the vision become a reality with integrity. They will be experienced in management and able to scale an organization amongst a remote and diverse working environment. The DOO will bring efficient and effective systems to increase organizational productivity while maintaining creative drive and divergent thought leading to implementation of new ideas and projects. They must be able to align their workflow to assist programs and leadership as needed while cultivating and enriching their work independently. This person will have a background in finance, human resources, and communications in tandem to their organizational accomplishments. Importantly, the successful DOO will have the skills, sensitivity, and personal confidence to tap into the power that each member of the team brings to this mission-focused organization.
The position requires demonstrated competency in the following areas:
Foundational and operational: policy creation, procedure formation
Organizational and strategic planning: management, prioritization
Human resources: communications, team support
Finance: support final reporting, budget preparation, related software
Communications: interpersonal, committee, public, government, online, social media, transparent
The Director of Operations’ duties are as follows:
Partner with the ED, ESC, and SC in essential core activities including administration, organizational and strategic planning, and human resources for all programs
Coordinate with all programs at ICA developing a broad and rooted knowledge of the entire scope of work
Identify and implement best practices and improve internal systems keeping in mind expansion of ICA and programming needs including addressing organizational challenges and accomplishments
Engage in mentoring/coaching, ask for and provide where fit
Manage segments of information technology, human resources including reviews, staff deployment/ balancing workload, career progression, and recruiting
Structure and lead projects to deliver outstanding results
Share in knowledge dissemination, reporting, and communications
Planning organizational development through face-to-face meetings, conferences, workshops
Oversee budgeting, reporting, planning, and auditing.
Ensure program directives operate consistently and ethically within the mission and values
Support team communications to help advance comprehensive and succinct methods of correspondence and ensure work plan and project planning are effective and efficient.
Build strong relationships internally and externally including relationships to funders to help secure ICA financially
Represent ICA at conferences, workshops, and community events
Qualifications + Requirements:
Passionate about the mission, values, and goals of ICA
Strong aptitude in organizational development, financial budgeting, recording and reporting, strategic planning, governance, policy building, written and verbal communications, system and process building, program management skills
Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, flexible, innovative approach to operational management
Decisive and analytic decision maker able to prioritize and communicate key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve goals
Understanding of general finance and budgeting, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash-flow management
Ability to build consensus and relationships among leadership team, partners, and staff
SALARY: $60,000 – $70,000 annual salary (pro-rated) depending on qualifications
