Director of Food Security – JFS – Vancouver, BC

Position Summary
JFS seeks a Food Security Director to manage a team responsible for promoting food justice; improving food access and building resilience for chronically vulnerable populations. The Food Security program recently went through a community consultation process and has emerged with a clear direction for growth. The Director will oversee the enactment of that vision and will represent food initiatives in organization-wide strategy development. Benefits & Compensation
JFS offers a competitive benefits package including generous paid time off, paid sick days, paid health and dental benefits, and RRSP matching. This is a full-time position, 35 hours per week. This is a parental leave coverage position from mid-April 2022 through mid-May 2023. Annual salary range is $78,000-$80,000; commensurate with experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Food Security will be responsible for:
Leading a dynamic team of staff and volunteers in implementing the Food Security vision; including managing current programs and planning for new programs and services
Regular supervision and support for a team of seven staff; including four direct reports
Championing best practices and operational excellence models to guide the ongoing growth and development of staff and volunteers
Ensuring operations are clearly documented and effectively communicating vision and direction to all internal and community stakeholders
Monitoring and guiding adjustments as needed; including effective impact measurement and evaluation approach for all food programs
Providing strategy for regular engagement with stakeholders and community members
Representing JFS Food Security at relevant internal and external meetings and events; providing visibility and collaboration with broader metro Vancouver food community
Working closely with the JFS Management Team and collaborating across departments
Overseeing our newly established community food hub and supervising facilities management

Requirements and Qualifications
Committed to organizational mission of uplifting lives
Minimum five years of management experience in multi-stakeholder environment; including experience in social enterprise and non-profit sector
Five+ years leading projects or programs with proactive and complex problem-solving approach
Two+ years of experience in food justice advocacy work

Vaccination Policy
JFS requires that all employees and volunteers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Anyone hired after January 1, 2022 will be required to show evidence that they have received at least one dose of the vaccine prior to employment, and we will require that they be fully vaccinated within 30 days of their start date.
