We are currently looking for an artistic and creative candidate for a Cake Decorator position. The candidate must be able to produce any cake flawlessly from recipe according to specifications.
Responsibilities
Cake decorators may have to use fractions mixing icing or use math to create elaborate cake decorations.
Attention to Detail: Cake decorators need to keep a close eye on what they are doing when creating decorations, to make sure the design is uniform. Intricate designs require keen eyes.
Artistic Ability: Thinking up and executing elaborate designs requires an artistic eye.
Stamina: Cake decorators are often on their feet for long periods of time.
Color Vision: Being able to see different colors and hues when mixing icings and creating designs is critical.
Mechanical Skills: Some cake decorators will need to use specific tools, like airbrush guns, modeling tools and mixers
Produce any cake from order through finish, including any plaques, to specifications and without any further assistance.
Production of specialty items (roses, garnishes) as needed.
Ensure all cakes are finished to the correct quality, weight and appearance according to company specifications.
Perform aspects of any other functions on the floor.
Weigh and mix sliced fruits for Mixed Fruit Torte and Strawberry Shortcake Lines as needed with correct quantities to avoid production delays and overage of products. Aide with fruit section if needed.
Dip strawberries in chocolate for finishing cakes with correct quantities to avoid production delays and overage of product.
Weigh and mix nuts for Nutbuster as required.
Clean up work area and equipment to sanitation and clean up procedures, separating waste into proper bins and maintaining organization standards of the work area.
Maintain and clean equipment used during shift. Report identified repairs to the Floor Manager, recording them on the repair log.
Comply with all regulatory and company policy (e.g. occupational health & safety, confidentiality statement, employee handbook, etc.)
Food Safety expectation: actively participates in food safety training administered by the company, adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Control Point (HACCP), British Retail Consortium (BRC) requirements and all quality control and food safety policies and procedures; Report any food safety concerns at the time the incident occurs.
Perform other tasks as required by the Plant Manager; work efficiently to complete assigned tasks and help the team meet the daily schedule.
Be punctual in arriving at work in order to help set up the work area and understand the daily work schedule.
Contribute constructively as a member of the Finishing team and help the team function at its highest potential and offering help when it is needed.
Constructively raise any concerns regarding own or team’s responsibilities with the Plant Manager, as may help avoid problems with meeting daily schedules or the functioning of the team e.g. notify of quality control problems or apparent shortage
Work diligently to learn and perform the requirements of the job as demonstrated by the completion of the Training Checklist.
Knowledge & Skills & Abilities
Minimum of 2 to 3 years cake decorating experience in a food preparation or baking manufacturing industry.
Decorating I, II and III from a recognized Culinary institution.
High school diploma or equivalent
Food Handlers Certificate is a must
Understanding of cake decorating techniques, piping and masking.
Great eye for detail and can demonstrate artistic ability
Excellent command of the English Language- spoken and written
Ability to work well with hands to properly utilize cutting utensils and related equipment
Ability to work to schedules, procedures and quality/sanitation requirements
Ability to work well with others as part of a team
Sensory & Physical Demands; Working Conditions
Ability to communicate & understand instructions
Extended periods of time focused on manual tasks, requiring care and attention to avoid injury to self or others
Stamina: Cake decorators are often on their feet for long periods of time.
Lift boxes or similar with weight of up to 20 – 25 kg
Able to apply physical effort to mix, reach, bend, stand, carry and cut/chop
Work a flexible shift as scheduled and communicated by Production Management (Note: hours, days and shifts of work are subject to change to meet the operational needs of the company)
Work overtime as may be required – weekdays and weekends
Work in a bakery environment which involves exposure to hot and cold room temperatures
Required education:
High school or equivalent
Required experience:
Cake Decorating experience: 2 years
experience In a food production line or food manufacturing industry: 2 years
