Reporting to the Supervisor, Environmental Outreach & Sustainability, the Climate Change Coordinator is responsible for the following:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Environmental Outreach & Sustainability, develop the climate adaptation strategy for the Municipality of King Township.
Develops and promotes the adoption of municipal operational and institutional changes that will ensure GHG emissions reduction over longer term for the municipality.
Researches, proposes, and implements operational and institutional changes required to implement recommendations from the climate adaptation strategic plan and ensure long-term impacts for the municipality.
Conducts research and analysis for the purpose of implementing municipal GHG emissions reductions initatives
Working with the Environment & Sustainability Coordinator, lead the Climate Action Plan Engagement Working Group to guide the development of a Community Engagement Plan to facilitate and improve feedback on the Townships draft Climate Action Plan
Performs other duties as assigned

The successful applicant will possess:
Post-secondary degree in Environmental Science/Studies, Climate Change or closely related field with three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in environmental management and/or community-based climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including writing successful grant applications, analytical skills and demonstrate knowledge of Federal and Provincial climate change policies and legislation.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office skills, with the ability to manipulate data and create complex spreadsheets. Knowledge of RETScreen Software is considered an asset.
Experience with sustainable planning and renewable energy in a municipal setting is considered an asset.
Strong knowledge and experience in the areas of GHG emissions reductions, climate change adaptation, sustainable development and environmental policies and procedures.
Demonstrated understanding of climate change issues and sustainable development within the context of municipal government.
Strong research and analytical skills (e.g. ability to conduct rigorous research, summarize findings, and present recommendations).
Understanding of the program development process and how to implement new initiatives.
Yearly wage range: $63,372.40-$79,242.80 (Grade 9, 2022 rate) – Fulltime, Union

This position
is subject to providing proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 in alignment with the Township Policy ADM-POL-163, COVID-19 Vaccination. Successful candidates will be required to be fully vaccinated with a Health Canada or the World Health Organization approved COVID-19 vaccine series with the final dose at least 14 days prior to your start date. To maintain ongoing fully vaccinated status, the successful candidate must also receive each dose/booster that may be required or recommended by Public Health. The Township will consider cases requiring accommodation as stipulated by relevant employment standards legislation or regulation and/or the Ontario Human Rights Code.
