Position Description
The Community Impact Director will work towards the Foundation’s goal of strengthening community connection to fisheries and building coastal community wellbeing. This includes growing young coastal leadership, promoting sustainable seafood systems, and supporting community wellbeing. This role offers a dynamic work opportunity and the Community Impact Director will work with the T.Buck staff, a volunteer committee of fish harvesters, program funders, and partner organizations to deliver appropriate programming. The Community Impact Director is responsible for coordinating the BC Young Fishermen’s Network and organizing the annual BC Young Fishermen’s Gathering. Travel throughout coastal BC is a possibility.
This position is remote with the opportunity to work from our office in Vancouver or Victoria.
Responsibilities
Coordinating the BC Young Fishermen’s Network including:
Developing community and skill building programming;
Organizing an annual BC Young Fishermen’s Gathering;
Managing digital communications- newsletter, Facebook, Instagram, website;
Securing and maintaining project funding;
Developing and maintaining strong relationships with partner organizations and stakeholders;
Creating and maintaining databases.
Participating in and leading initiatives that support domestic and values-based seafood systems including workshops and events
Participating in research initiatives around coastal community wellbeing
Coordinating the annual T.Buck Suzuki Legacy Bursary including outreach, review process, and communication with applicants
Supporting other program areas including OceanSmart, marine planning and sustainable fisheries initiatives
Representing the Foundation and communicating program goals to the public at various community and industry events
Participating in organizational activities including developing individual work plans and Objectives and Key Results, staff reporting and other processes
Knowledge & Skills
Strong knowledge of fisheries and coastal British Columbia
Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
Self-starter with the ability to manage and prioritize competing assignments while working remotely
Strategic thinker who brings creativity and flexibility into work
Strong relationship builder with excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent oral and written communications including report writing, editing, and presentations
Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive
Desire to support and promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and mindfulness throughout our entire organization and in work with communities.
Experience
Experience in project, program, or event management an asset
Experience in fundraising or budget management an asset
Experience in social media management, non-profit communications, or marketing an asset
Understanding of community economic development, enhancing coastal economic opportunities, improving social conditions in a sustainable manner
Preference to those with experience working with or in Indigenous communities, marine industries, and coastal communities in B.C.
