Responsibilities:
Assist with maintaining Scadding Court’s community garden and collective garden plots including planting, irrigation, weed removal, harvesting, and composting.
Oversee maintenance of the pollinator garden in Alexandra Park including planting, weed removal, irrigation, and seed collection.
Work cooperatively with volunteers at the Alexandra Park Diversity Garden to complete gardening tasks.
Co-facilitate the weekly Roots and Shoots garden education program.
Assist with planning and facilitating workshops and events (e.g., seedling sale, public workshops, etc.).
Support with ongoing and final program evaluation activities.
Comply with all organizational policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Must be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs Program (be between 15-30 years of age at time of hiring).
Ability to work on feet and perform physical activities for extended periods.
Ability to left heavy/large objects, such as bags of soil and gardening equipment.
Willingness to work in all kinds of weather.
Possession of valid safe food handling, CPR, and First Aid Certificates an asset.
Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers, volunteers, and community members.
Relevant training and experience in the areas of urban agriculture and/or community gardening.
Experience working cooperatively with volunteers in a community setting.
Demonstrated ability to relate well to people of all ages, cultural backgrounds, socio-economic levels, gender identities and abilities.
Excellent communication skills in English; ability to speak/understand additional languages an asset.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Experience with multi-tasking in a busy environment.
Hours of Work: 35 hours/week
Rate of Pay: $16.50 per hour
Benefits: 4% vacation pay
