Communications / Promotional Media Assistant – Charlie’s FreeWheels – Toronto, Ontario

Job Summary:

The Communications & Promotional Media Assistant will convey the impact of programming to Charlie’s FreeWheels’ growing community of fans and supporters, and will assist in developing the presentation of curriculum so that it is consistent with CFW’s teaching methods, and in line with Charlie’s FreeWheels’ branding and organizational narrative.

Given that this is a part-time position, the Communications & Promotional Media Assistant will be required to use their judgment to prioritize weekly tasks. The Director will use this job description as a range of tasks and areas of responsibility; weekly work-plans will be determined based on need and workflow of the CFW.

Working Relationships:

CFW’s social media community (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Newsletter Recipients)
Programming participants & volunteers
Traditional news outlets (radio reporters, newspaper reporters, etc.)

Duties & Responsibilities:

Communications Plan & Delivery

Develop and coordinate CFW social media & outreach strategy;
Refine and communicate CFW’s “core” messages to ensure organizational consistency, by working with Director and programming staff;
Identify significant media and public policy issues that can be leveraged to support CFW’s work, and create and implement plans to exploit them;
Design and upkeep and a repository for Charlie’s Stories
Design and implement procedures to collect stories from staff, volunteers and participants to continue to add to CFW’s organizational narrative.

Community Outreach and Engagement

Write promotional materials, website content, articles, publications and other communication materials as required;
Coordinate and maintain website and social media platforms;
Craft key messages for specific groups, initiatives or projects;
Develop newsletters, press releases and fact sheets;
Organize new and innovative ways to communicate and engage community;
Promote ongoing community events

Promotional Material Design & Implementation

Design programming material that is created in line with CFW’s overall personality and brand, so that it is digestible by programming participants, and may be used to promote CFW’s spirit of teaching to funders

Other related duties

To participate on key Advisory Committee committees as appropriate.
To participate actively as an agency representative in collaborative partner networks and in related community activities.
To identify learning needs for program and service staff, and for the staff of the agency as a whole, and assist in providing needed training.

Qualifications:

Substantial expierence and proven track record in engaging media sources is a must
An undergraduate degree in a related field
Knowledge of design software

Working Conditions:

Weekend and evening work will be required for the role

Requirements & Compensations:

This is a part-time position requiring 5-10 hours of committment per week. Compensation will be $18.00/hr.
