Communications and Adminstrative Assistant – Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC – Victoria

The Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC (FMCBC) is a democratic, grassroots organization dedicated to protecting and maintaining access to quality, non-motorized, backcountry recreation opportunities throughout B.C. Our membership is comprised of a diverse group of recreationists including hikers, rock climbers, mountaineers, trail runners, kayakers, mountain bikers, backcountry skiers and snowshoers. As an organization, we believe that the enjoyment of these pursuits in an unspoiled environment is a vital component to the quality of life for British Columbians.

We are currently seeking a part-time Communications and Administrative Assistant to help with a variety of communications related tasks as well as provide general administrative support to our Executive Director. The ideal candidate for this position will be self-motivated and creative, have experience in social media and website management and have some outdoor recreation experience.
Duties and Responsibilities

Communications (75%)

Performs general website updates and maintenance
Assists with researching and developing original blog content
Plans and implements social media content for Facebook and Twitter
Monitors social media channels
Assists with researching and drafting monthly e-newsletters
Assists with production of semi-annual Cloudburst newsletter
Works with Outreach/Communications Committee on a communications plan

General Administration (25%)

Assists with travel arrangements, booking meeting rooms
Attends and records minutes from Board and committee teleconferences and local meetings
Assists with Annual General Meeting document and event preparation
Assists with processing invoices

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

Experience and/or post secondary education in a discipline relevant to communications, marketing, journalism, or administration
Website management experience (WordPress)
Experience in researching and writing social media and blog content
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Publisher, Word and Excel)
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Self motivated and able to work independently

Conditions of Employment

Location: Victoria/Southern Vancouver Island
This is a part-time (8 hours per week) one year renewable contract position reporting directly to the Executive Director. The employee is expected to work from home and provide computer and internet connection unless otherwise arranged with the Executive Director. Work hours are flexible with some evening and weekend work required.
Wage: $15 per hour
Start date: Beginning of April 2015
