Clerk-Typist 3 (Utility Billing Clerk) – City of White Rock – White Rock, BC

Temporary Full-Time (35 hours per week)

The Financial Services Department seeks an individual with outstanding customer service, interpersonal and analytical skills to join their team as a Clerk-Typist 3 (Utility Billing Clerk) on a Temporary Full-Time basis for approximately five (5) months. Reporting to the Manager, Revenue Services, the incumbent will coordinate the preparation, collection and maintenance of utility accounts using computer software applications. The incumbent will also be responsible for preparing quarterly utility bills, reconciling utility accounts and maintaining files and other related statistics and reports. Additionally, this position provides factual information to the public relative to the City’s utility operation and billing. You will be responsible for providing customer service in a professional and courteous manner, including dealing with upset or angry customers and handling customer complaints with a considerable amount of judgement to mitigate escalation of issues to senior levels of the organization. Other job duties will include maintaining a variety of departmental records, files and accounts, and performing other routine clerical tasks. The successful candidate has exceptional attention to detail and strong problem solving skills.

Requirements:

Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by word processing and commercial courses, preferably in bookkeeping and Microsoft Office Suite training, plus sound related experience performing collection, cash receipting and clerical functions; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Sound knowledge of computer systems and software applications, including database management. Experience with Tempest preferred.
Sound knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic.
Proficiency in the use of computer software including Microsoft Office with strong word processing skills and the ability to use and create templates, spreadsheets and mail merges.
Ability to perform basic accounting, including knowledge of account classification, modern business practices and the procedures used in receiving and recording remittances.
