Citizen Science Summer Intern – EcoSpark – Toronto

Position Responsibilities/Tasks:
Provide general support to staff, including some administrative duties
Assist with inventory and maintenance of Citizen Science monitoring equipment
Assist with delivering citizen science programming for community groups (all ages)
Ensure that student-generated data from School Watch is accurately collected and validates
Provide planning support for EcoSpark’s annual Sparking Science conference for girls interested in careers in science.
Help promote EcoSpark’s educational programming for schools and at events
Comply with EcoSpark’s health and safety policies, including Covid-19 policies
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Personal and professional interest in the environment sector
Positive energy and enthusiasm
Well demonstrated research, organizational and time-management skills
Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
Self-direction as well as good teamwork abilities
Experience with social media platforms
Experience with event planning is an asset
Strong attention to detail
Valid driver’s license is an asset
Experience working or volunteering with a not-for-profit is an asset
This internship is funded through Canada Summer Jobs. To quality, the successful student must meet the following

Requirements:
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with Ontario legislation and regulations

Employment Type: Full Time (9 weeks from June 27 to August 26, 202022). Weekend and evening work will be required from time-to-time.
Salary: $15.25/hr for 9 weeks
Start Date: June 27, 2022
Location: Toronto, ON with travel throughout the Greater Toronto Area
Reports to: Executive Director
