Casual Clerical Support – City of Port Coquitlam – Port Coquitlam, BC

The City of Port Coquitlam is a rapidly growing urban municipality of over 57,000 residents, located in the northeast section of the Lower Mainland.  The City is distinguished by a strong sense of community pride and commitment to responsible municipal management in meeting the needs of the community.

The City of Port Coquitlam is currently accepting applications from enthusiastic, energetic and qualified individuals who are interested in casual clerical support relief opportunities. As part of the recruitment process, shortlisted candidates will be tested on their typing speed and proficiency in Microsoft 2010 applications. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment, work and communicate effectively in a team environment. Solid related clerical/administrative experience is required to be considered.

Casual Clerical Support personnel are assigned to a number of City departments such as Engineering, Planning, Finance, Bylaw, Clerks, Parks and Recreation Administration.  The work varies depending upon the department of assignment and is of moderate complexity involving:

Responding to public inquiries about City services
Daily use of MS Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook
Providing a broad range of administrative and clerical support including: drafting and processing correspondence, conducting basic research, and data entry
Preparing and maintaining various manual and computer based records
Other duties as required by the specific assignment
Requirements: (please state in your cover letter how you have met the requirements below)
Completion of Grade 12
Minimum 50 accurate wpm
Business or report writing course
2 years’ experience in an administrative role
Successful completion of a basic bookkeeping course or Accounting level one

Casual Clerical Support personnel require flexibility in scheduling and the desire to work in a variety of City departments, often on short notice. This position does not have a set schedule and you must be available to accept assignments between the hours of 7:30-4:30 Mondays through Fridays.  Casual Clerical personnel must also be available to accept assignments during the summer months.

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement.  The rate of pay starts at $22.86 to $27.59 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.
