Canada Programme Officer – Energy Transition Fund – Ontario

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Issue Expertise
Provides movement building and/or civil society campaign expertise, specifically aiding in building out civil society resources that support successful campaigns and coalitions
Maintains a deep understanding of regional energy, social justice and/or civil society issues for Canada and develops and/or maintains subject matter expertise
Proactively scopes new opportunities to build up and expand fundable strategies in Canada, in particular on campaigns with a focus on just transition
Builds and maintains networks in the civil Society / NGO sector
Engages with civil society and funding partners to co-design new strategies and sets clear objectives for those strategies and benchmark progress against agreed organisational objectives.
Proactively builds and maintains extensive external networks with experts and civil society organisations to ensure strategies and grantmaking are informed by emerging and up-to-date research and insights
Provides region specific guidance and direction for the annual global grant making strategy
Innovation & Strategy
Maintains a responsive, creative and innovative approach to public campaigns and identifies opportunities to tap into broader cultural moments and narratives
Maintains awareness of the political and social structures that enable or disable a just transition and creates strategies and campaigns to mobilise the public and support civil society’s ability to effectively enable change
Facilitates and supports opportunities for collaboration or coalition building across partners, and coordinates shared strategy
Grant Making
Develops and manages an ambitious grantmaking portfolio in Canada that drives forward ETF’s established strategies.
Participates in the development of grant making strategies and creates systems for identification of new grantees
Builds meaningful, respectful, and effective relationships with a diverse range of partners, including across cultures, and approaches relationships with a highly collaborative mindset
Undertakes screening of potential grantees and selects grantees to fund
Stewards grantees through the grantmaking and reporting process, and liaises with operations staff to ensure administrative burdens on grantees is reduced
Tracks timelines for grant reporting, reviews reports, ensures accuracy, and tracks outcomes
Identifies areas of risk and barriers to success for grantees and provides mitigation strategies and supports as appropriate
Fundraising and Funder Support
Supports the development of revenues as requested by providing reports or meeting with funders
Produces reports on work of existing grantees for funders
Attends key foundation gatherings related to areas of oversight
Writes or participates in the writing of proposals and reports for foundations
Participates in Steering Committee meetings as required
Team Collaboration
Provides support to other members of ETF as needed
Develops, completes or manages ad hoc projects as directed
Work with colleagues to put into action ETF’s organisational and strategic plans
Participates in operational planning
Collaborates with colleagues to help ensure the best outcomes for ETF and our partners

POSSIBLE PROFILE OF CANDIDATE
Experience in a coordination, strategy, or leadership role in a civil society or public campaign, with transferable expertise that can inform a funding portfolio that supports multi-partner campaigns and coalition building
A desire to innovate and experiment with novel approaches to campaigns, collaborations and civil society coalitions
A strong drive to build robust support for a just and equitable energy transition
Knowledge of movement or campaign theor(ies)
Experience working across diverse cultures
Highly collaborative
Knowledge of issues that relate to or impact the energy transition
A strong preference for bilingualism (French and English)

COMPENSATION
Salary of $96,000 – $124,000 CAD (dependent on experience) and Comprehensive Benefits Package
