The position:
Ecosource is seeking three Camp Counsellors to co-facilitate our Climate Connections Day Camp, leading children ages 5-9 in positive experiential learning. The counsellors will work in close collaboration with members of the Ecosource team to engage campers in exploring and cooking with local food, outdoor play and discovery, and hands-on environmental learning using JEDIS (justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and safety) principles.
Responsibilities:
Co-facilitate 8 weeks of Ecosource’s Climate Connections Day Camp for children ages 5-9.
Create safe and inclusive environments for children of all backgrounds and needs.
Regularly monitor and enforce health and safety guidelines for campers.
Assist in the development and review of camp schedules and programming including on-site environmental learning, games, activities, and cooking sessions at the Ecosource Community Hub.
Schedule and facilitate camp programming that will take place offsite including nature walks, activities at public parks, and other excursions.
Support relevant program communications including emails and phone calls with campers’ parents and guardians, and social media updates.
Prepare, organize, monitor and replenish camp materials.
Assist with the development and administration of evaluation tools for camper and parent/guardian feedback and provide recommendations for program modifications.
Assist with organizational environmental education related events, workshops, and programming as required.
Qualifications:
Energetic individual with an ability to connect with children through leading dynamic, inclusive, and engaging activities.
A passion for environmental and climate action education.
Previous camp counsellor experience required.
Gardening and cooking/food skills experience (preferred but not essential, training will be provided).
Willingness to undertake physical tasks in indoor and outdoor settings in a variety of weather conditions.
Experience delivering educational programming to a diverse audience.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good organizational skills, responsible and creative approach to tasks and problem solving.
Standard First Aid and CPR C Certificate an asset.
Due to funding requirements, the successful candidate must be 15-30 years of age.
Application Information:
This is a short-term, contract position paid at a rate of $23.63 per hour at 35 hours per week from June to September, dependent on funding. Access to personal days and 6% vacation pay are included. Some evening and weekend work will be required. A Police Check will be required upon hiring.
