Business Sustainability Manager, Green Economy New Brunswick – Green Economy Canada – Vancouver, BC

The Opportunity
We are looking for a stellar Business Sustainability Manager to support GENB’s members to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and make the transition to a net-zero future. As an ideal candidate, you are a technically-minded sustainability professional excited by the prospect of supporting individual and collective business action to build New Brunswick’s low-carbon economy. You value and are skilled at creating a strong customer experience, and are highly organized and detail-oriented.

Term: Full-time, permanent position
Salary: $67,000 / year

What Does the Business Sustainability Manager Do?
Lead all aspects of GENB member support (70%)
Act as the first point of contact for GENB’s members to support and guide their sustainability journey using Green Economy Canada’s tools, templates, and established process.
Lead member kick-off meetings and on-going check-ins to understand member successes and challenges, and connect members to the guidance and resources needed to keep progressing towards their goals.
Support members to measure their carbon footprint by scoping what data to collect, supporting their data collection activities, conducting data quality assurance, and working with Green Economy Canada’s data team to generate GHG inventories.
Deliver standardized foundational training sessions on topics including developing an effective action plan, setting ambitious but achievable sustainability targets, and communicating sustainability work.
Providing individualized support to members to develop practical action plans, set meaningful reduction targets, and make progress towards their goals.
Conduct technical research, make connections to external experts and funding sources, and deliver ad hoc support to members as required based on emerging member needs.
Collaborate with GENB’s Events and Communications Coordinator to inform GENB’s events and recognition efforts. Examples include: sharing member needs to inform topic selection of capacity-building workshops and identifying member sustainability projects to highlight in case studies and public communications channels.
Identify resource and process improvements (15%)
Identify the need for new resources, guidance or processes to support members, and proactively bring forward recommendations for those improvements.
Adapt Green Economy Canada resources for use in New Brunswick, and lead the development of new training, resources and processes where identified.
Share learnings about delivering member support with other Hubs across Green Economy Canada’s network, and integrate best practices to increase the effectiveness of GENB’s support.
Manage member administration and assess member impact (15%)
Ensure member information and progress is kept up-to-date, and manage member renewals.
Lead data collection and impact measurement activities to assess member satisfaction and progression.

Based in Atlantic Canada with relevant work experience or formal education in sustainability / climate change, energy or environmental management, business, or a related field.
Bilingual proficiency in French and English (oral and written) is considered a major asset.
Experience working with businesses to measure, manage and report on their climate impact is considered a major asset (potential examples include: experience with greenhouse gas accounting, facility walkthroughs, energy retrofit projects, sustainability frameworks like Science-Based Targets Initiative, B Corp, Global Reporting Initiative).
Strong project management and organisational skills. You have an ability to effectively plan and manage multiple priorities, manage significant projects on time and on budget, and coordinate a variety of stakeholders to achieve project success.
Strong research, analytical and critical-thinking skills. You are skilled at analysing data, asking probing questions, extracting key insights, and drawing data-driven conclusions /recommendations.
Proactive, conscientious and detail-oriented. You are proactive in identifying what needs to get done and where there might be road blocks, actively communicate and close the loop, and ultimately build trust that work is completed with quality and care.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills. You are comfortable working both independently and remotely, with an ability to form strong collaborative relationships with co-workers and GENB members. You are a skilled listener, and have strong verbal and written communication skills to convey information clearly and succinctly.
