Before and After School Care Staff – City of Surrey

City of Surrey’s Community & Recreation Services Division provides exciting opportunities and challenges in an active and energetic environment and is looking for enthusiastic Before and After School Care Staff for our before and after school care programs. These positions are best suited to creative, self-motivated individuals who enjoy working with children (ages 6 – 12 years) in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Community Services Assistant 1
Applicants will have previous experience working with children. Completion of Grade 12, current First Aid and CPR/AED certificates are required. Applicants under consideration will be required to consent to a Police Information Check/Vulnerable Sector Check.

Community Services Assistant 2
Applicants will have previous experience working with children and experience in a leadership role. Completion of Grade 12, current First Aid and CPR/AED certificates are required. Applicants under consideration will be required to consent to a Police Information Check/Vulnerable Sector Check.

Before and After School Care Staff are responsible for carrying out a variety of educational, recreational and cultural programming duties related to planning, developing, facilitating and implementing courses for school-aged children ages (6 – 12 years) registered in our before and after school care program. Working with groups of children, the Before and After School Care Staff will conduct individual and/or group activities to encourage learning and develop social interaction skills in areas such as sports, arts & crafts, music, dance, and cooking.

You will have a strong understanding of healthy child development and the ability to establish an enriching environment that provides learning experiences that meet the needs, interests, development and skill level of each child. You will ensure safety, promote physical and mental well-being and encourage healthy nutrition. You will work collaboratively with co-workers, families, school district staff and community agencies to build supportive relationships with children and empower them as individuals and as part of a group. You will actively participate in program planning, delivery and evaluation.
