Assistant Seed Librarian – Village Vancouver Transition Society – Vancouver

Qualifications:
Interest in community development
Ability to work well with management, board, staff, volunteers and others
Ability to take direction well and to show initiative
Experience working, studying, or collaborating with people from diverse cultures economic backgrounds
Seed saving and/or gardening experience an asset
Familiarity with the Kitsilano neighbourhood and the Westside an asset
Ability to occasionally lift moderately heavy to heavy items
Projects and tasks: Primary task:
Producing and filling seed packets for our seed libraries

Tasks may also include:
Filling seed orders, processing seed donations, and helping to maintain and restock our seed libraries
Developing educational and promotional material for seed saving efforts
Writing seed, gardening, or other food related articles for the Village Vancouver (or a community partner) newsletter and VV blog
Helping organize seed saving and other workshops and seed saver club meetings, and participating in seed saver meetings
Filling DIY planter kit giveaway orders
Assisting with plant and bee house giveaways
Helping with Village Vancouver workshops and activities
Tabling at Village Vancouver booths at street fairs, festivals, farmers markets, or other community gatherings
Other seed, gardening, and general tasks as needed
Rate of pay: $17.70 per hour + 4% in lieu of vacation
Job duration and hours: 35 hours/week for 16 weeks (560 hours total), from May 15 to August 31. (Start date may be adjusted.) Mutually agreeable schedule to be determined.
Location: A combination of Field House McBride Park (Kitsilano, Vancouver) and remote work, with potential restocking of VV community seed libraries on-site and (optionally) gardening at VV gardens.
Accessibility: The Field House is not wheelchair accessible.
