The Cowichan Valley School District invites applications for the position of Assistant Secretary-Treasurer for the District.

Located 45 minutes from Victoria and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, the Cowichan Valley School District extends north to Saltair, south to Spectacle Lake on the Malahat and west to the Lake Cowichan region.  The district serves a student population of approximately 7,300 students in 22 school sites and has an operating budget of approximately $74 million.  Further information regarding the School District can be obtained at www.sd79.bc.ca.

A senior management team member, the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer reports to the Secretary-Treasurer and has responsibilities in the areas of finances, facilities, student transportation and non-educational services necessary to support student achievement.
 
The successful candidate will possess:

Professional accounting designation and five years related experience in a senior financial role in the public education sector; or
Professional accounting designation and seven years related experience in a senior financial role in the local government sector; and
Progressively responsible experience in budget development and financial analysis;
Experience in the leadership and supervision of staff;
Ability to comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards;
Ability to organize and plan workload; meet deadlines; exercise good judgment and make sound decisions;
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of individuals within and outside the organization;
Sound analytical and problem-solving skills;
Ability to pay attention to detail; and,
Excellent interpersonal skills.
