I POSITION PURPOSE STATEMENT
The City is looking to backfill the Assistant Planner position to cover a parental leave until the return of the incumbent (up to 14 months). Development interest in Revelstoke is currently very high and there may be opportunity for longer duration, permanent employment within the Planning function of the Department.

Reporting to the Director of Development Services, the Assistant Planner will be responsible for a wide range of professional planning services including the development of Bylaws, policies, and procedures, as well as to review & summarize development applications. In addition, the Assistant Planner may be required to undertake special projects, represent the Development Services Department at public and committee meetings, and temporarily backfill for other Development Services Department staff.

II EDUCATION
University degree or diploma in Land Use/Community Planning, or relatedfield.
Familiarity with applicable land use regulations, including provincial legislation and City bylaws, policies and procedures which pertain to land use and development.
Sound understanding of current municipal planning and Part 14 (previously Part 26) of the Local Government Act, familiarity with interactive web maps or other GISmapping.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with provincial statutes and regulations, related documents, and municipal planning bylaws in a planning capacity, preferably in a BC local government setting.
Proficient and knowledgeable in computer usage, specifically the Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, and Power Point; and experience with mapping and/or GISapplications.
Member of Planning lnstitute of BC (PIBC) and Canadian lnstitute of Planners (ClP) is preferred.

III THE GOOD STUFF
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm (35 hour work week)
Variable work hours (compressed work week and/or modified work week) in accordance with the collective agreement are available for this position.
Rate of Pay: $37.51 per hour
