The City of Penticton’s Fire Department is seeking an innovative and energetic individual to fill the position of Assistant Fire Chief. As a member of the management team and reporting to the Fire Chief, this position will provide high-level support in the day-to-day operations of the department.
The successful candidate will be dynamic and service oriented, with proven fire service leadership and extensive administrative and operational experience. Duties will include: program development and implementation, coordinating operations and other activities with City departments and outside agencies, and all aspects of personnel and resource management.
The successful candidate will have:
Fire Services Leadership or Administration diploma/degree and 15 years’ progressive experience in a municipal fire or emergency service, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Post-secondary education in Business Administration and/or Management studies is an asset
NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level II
NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II
First Responder Level III with endorsements and CPR Level C
Fire Service Instructor level II
Incident Safety Officer
ICS, Level 300
Thorough knowledge of fire service legislation, codes and operational procedures.
Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience in a unionized environment
Conflict Management training/experience is an asset
Superior written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills
Strong commitment to provide excellent customer service and public relations
Demonstrated commitment to continual learning
Advanced computer skills (Fire Programs, MS Office Suite, Agresso)
Valid BC Driver’s License – Class 3, 4 with Air Endorsement
