The Northern Development Division is responsible for delivering Ontario government programs, services and information across the North, promoting economic growth and investment in Northern Ontario, ensuring that government policies and programs reflect a northern perspective, gathering input from northern stakeholders and keeping them informed of government initiatives affecting Northern Ontario.

Through a network of field offices and government information centres, you will ensure leading edge access to government programs, business development strategies, investment attraction approaches, export marketing assistance and input to health and social services improvements.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Deputy Minister of Northern Development and Mines, you will:

Provide executive leadership to the ministry in the achievement of its vision and mandate for Northern Ontario prosperity.
Identify key government priorities, challenges and opportunities for the North and provide strategic and policy advice supported by a coherent approach to research and information analysis that effectively supports new and/or modified legislation and policies, standards and practices.
Capture input from northern stakeholders and keep them informed of government initiatives affecting Northern Ontario.
Provide executive leadership to the delivery of capital assistance and infrastructure programs, ensure the effective operation of northern transportation systems and protect the provincial government’s investment in northern highway, rail, air and ferry transportation.
Ensure the effective and efficient operations of a geographically dispersed division while fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, accessibility and excellence.

Location: 70 Foster Drive, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

Note:

Extensive travel is required to Toronto and other northern centres.

How do I qualify?

Senior Leadership:

You are a senior executive with demonstrated success in large teams in geographically dispersed, northern-based organizations.
You are familiar with decision-making structures in the public sector.

Northern Development Knowledge:

You are familiar with the issues, trends, environments and government strategic priorities affecting Northern Ontario.
Your background includes experience leading economic development and community development initiatives.
You have knowledge of service delivery in the north, transportation, marketing communications and Northern Ontario economics.

Relationship Management:

You have the proven ability to connect and foster complex, collaborative business relationships with partners and stakeholders including municipalities, the broader public sector and First Nations.
You are a sophisticated communicator with superior public relations skills to represent the ministry and government and can lead stakeholder/public engagements.
You are politically astute and have demonstrated success leading crisis management and risk mitigation strategies for high-profile issues.

Salary: $146,700.00 – $167,650.00 per year
