Arena Maintenance Worker/Labourer
(Competition 15-84)

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full time Arena Maintenance Worker/Labourer.  The incumbent will perform ice resurfacing operation; monitor the Arena physical plants and maintain building security; carry out janitorial maintenance; carry out basic maintenance duties; and assist the public in their use of the facilities.  The incumbent will also carry out a variety of work necessary for the maintenance and construction of City parks, gardens, boulevards and facilities as well as assist in the completion of specific capital works projects and other tasks as required.

Applicants will have completed Grade 12, and have the following qualifications:

Building Service Worker – Level 1
Ice Makers Course – Level 1
Minimum six (6) months’ experience in operating ice resurfacing equipment
5th Class Power Engineers Refrigeration Certificate
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

This is a unionized position with a 40 hour work week.   Shift work is involved from September to May in the Arena Maintenance Worker role.  In the Labourer position, the incumbent will work Monday to Friday from May to September.  The January 2015 wage rates are listed below.
