Communications and Administrative Associate
The Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-op seeks eligible candidates for the position of Communications and Administrative Associate. This position is full-time for one year with the option to extend upon performance review.

Required knowledge:
Organizational tools and computing systems
Familiarity with financial management systems
Wordpress for website updating
Familiarity with online communications tools including Hootsuite, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Meetup, MailChimp, Anytime Meeting, Google Analytics
Preferable Expertise:
Contacts within existing networks in Ottawa
Fluent in French
Experience in media outreach and advertising
Experience in community organizing and marketing
Familiar with telephone marketing
Experience with graphic design (In Design or equivalent)
Experience with video editing (Windows Live Movie Maker or equivalent)
Familiarity with renewable energy systems
Familiarity with co-operative enterprise
Access to own computer
Duties:
Communications:
Update website
Post on social media
Update members and mailing lists and mail new member certificates
Prepare monthly newsletters
Support organization of events (posters, event logistics, advertising, etc)
Phone members/supporters quarterly
Draft profiles of solar projects
Analyse effectiveness of communications and marketing activities
Administration:
Create administrative handbook for organization
Manage annual dividend/interest, investor statement, and T5 mailout
Manage accounts payable/receivables with bookkeeper
Download monthly bank accounts
Manage paperwork for securities offerings
Apply for grants where applicable, report on existing grants
File OnCorp reports
Support in preparations for the annual audit
Organize Annual General Meeting of Members
Support in preparation of offering statements for FSCO
Solar projects:
Download and analyse weekly solar production data
File necessary paperwork with IESO and LDC for existing solar projects
Download monthly electricity generation reports
Set up insurance policies as needed
Work Conditions:
The OREC head office is located within Sustainability Centre at the West End Well, 969 Wellington Street West. The location offers ample opportunity to network and collaborate with dynamic and progressive organizations and individuals in the Ottawa community.
Work hours are expected to be 35 hr/week. It is anticipated that hours will be longer during Sept-Nov at the fiscal year end as well as during the final month of any securities offering. This position will report to the Operations Manager and may take direction from OREC’s Board of Directors or four Advisory Teams.
Remuneration:
This is a salaried position at $30,000/year, including 3 weeks paid vacation; unpaid considered if requested.
About the Organization:
OREC is a forward-thinking, dynamic, financially-viable, community-owned business building a social economy in Ottawa. Currently, there are over 400 individual members of OREC, representing many of Ottawa’s community and thought-leaders. OREC is governed by a 13-member volunteer board of directors who are very engaged in the daily activities of the Co-op. OREC’s staff team is made up of a full-time Operations Manager, and part-time contracted Technical Manager, Project Manager, Bookkeeper, and Legal Counsel.
OREC is a large enough organization that the successful candidate will receive the guidance and support s/he requires, but small enough that the successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn quickly and assume significant responsibilities.
