Would you like to help to create a more walkable and bikeable Peterborough? GreenUP is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated person to join our team as Transportation Program Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate Peterborough Pulse, an Open Streets initiative through the heart of the city, with the Pulse Committee.
Develop and implement school-based active transportation campaigns for the existing Car-Free School Days and High School Shifting Gears programs.
Support campaigns with social media, engagement activities, and school visits.
Develop effective marketing, media and public education materials.
Build strong relationships with community event sponsors.
Recruit, train and manage program and event volunteers.
Develop tools for evaluating the delivery and impact of each project.
Prepare program assessments and reports.
Additional duties as required.
Key characteristics and skills to succeed in this role:
Teamwork skills: Each project is guided by a small team or committee. Candidate must have proven teamwork skills and the ability to work in a group setting.
Project coordination skills: Demonstrated success coordinating projects from conceptualization through to implementation; the applicant is organized, manages time well; is thorough with a strong attention to detail.
Conscientiousness: Ability to juggle multiple priorities, effectively balancing short-term needs of programs with larger longer-term organizational goals.
Initiative: Identifies necessary improvements, new directions and priorities for projects, and is proactive in bringing those forward with rationale and recommendations for implementation
Critical-thinking skills: Ability to analyze problems systematically, asking good questions to identify underlying causes, and recommending potential solutions.
Communication: Microsoft Office Skills, Data Entry Management, Adobe Illustrator considered an asset, Strong verbal and written skills.
Environmentally-minded: Demonstrated commitment to the environment and community through previous work or volunteerism, Strong cyclist is preferred.
Requirements:
Related post-secondary degree
2+ years experience delivering community programming
Up-to-date police record check
CAN-Bike certification considered an asset
Valid Driver’s License considered an asset
Key Projects:
Peterborough Pulse creates a vibrant, playful, and active car-free corridor through the city for one day each summer. Over 50 community groups and businesses, 60 volunteers and 4000 participants come together to celebrate active living and healthy communities in our city’s largest public space – our streets.
The High School Shifting Gears program is one component of the annual Community Shifting Gears challenge held every May, with special promotions and prizes to encourage students to walk, bike, carpool and take transit.
Car-Free School Days is a school-wide, year-long campaign that pits class against class, and school against school to see who will out walk, run, bike or wheel the rest. Elementary schools across the city and county encourage active and sustainable transportation every Wednesday.
