SALARY: $43,136 – $50,660
This position is within the Purchasing Services Division of the Finance and IT Department. Your role will be to perform moderately complex clerical work and elementary purchasing work for routine purchases. You will be responsible for receiving, checking and processing purchase orders and requisitions; preparing information of vendor spend for strategic sourcing initiatives; contacting suppliers to obtain price, product and delivery information; assembling and reviewing tender documents, as directed; handling record keeping; administering the purchasing card program; maintaining vendor databases for the Purchasing Division; and assisting the Purchasing Manager.
Requirements include:
Grade 12 including or supplemented by commercial and purchasing fundamentals courses, plus sound related clerical and general office experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preference may be given to those working towards completion of the Supply Management Training Certificate through the Supply Chain Management Association.
Sound knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic and punctuation.
Sound knowledge of modern purchasing methods and procedures.
Sound knowledge of record keeping, filing and related functions and applicable departmental practices, rules and regulations.
Working knowledge of the functions and requirements of client departments served by the Purchasing Services Division.
Working knowledge of Oracle JD Edwards.
Advanced skill set in Microsoft Office Suite 2010 (ie. Outlook, Word and Excel).
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and staff, and to employ contemporary service excellence principles.
Ability to compose routine correspondence and to arrange format for reports, tabulations, forms and related material.
Ability to make routine decisions according to established policies and procedures.
Ability to maintain a variety of records and to make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
Ability to type with a high degree of speed and accuracy.
Valid BC driver’s license.
*City Hall hours of operation are Monday, 8am to 8pm, and Tuesday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
