The  Saint  Mary’s  University  Students’  Association  was  incorporated  on  April  6,  1966  by  a  special  act  of  the  Nova  Scotia Legislature.  According  to  the  Act,  the  Association  exists  to  provide  services,  support,  advocacy  and  representation  to  all  its members,  the  students  of  Saint  Mary’s  University. We  are  a  not-for-profit  organization  that  strives  to  operate  from  a  zero based budget, meaning that we work to have a balance in the ratio between revenues and expenses and provide the maximum benefit to each member.

Under  the Management  of  the General Manager, the Marketing  and  Societies Manager  oversees  visual  and  communication identities of SMUSA.  The Manager works collaboratively with the General Manager and Executive team to provide support and resources for Events, Promotions and Societies.

The Marketing and Societies Manager will be responsible for setting up and maintaining our Student Societies, facilitate Society Expos and  Summits.  The Manager will  be  the main  point  person  for  student  societies  and must  have  a  positive demeanor, excellent communication skills and an enthusiasm for helping people.

The Manager would be involved with the internal and external communications including promotions, yearbook, website, social media business cards and all SMUSA branding.  This position is also required to secure special event sponsorship and maintain advertising packages.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate Societies and organize Society Expos and Summits
Act as Brand Manager
Aid in the Negotiations of Contracts
Manage Yearbook
Manage the Website, SMUSA APP, Social Media, Media Screens and Digital Marquee
Develop suitable software upgrades and backup
Develop Graphics
Assist Student Executives and Staff
Assist in recruiting entertainment
Develop and abide by Operating Budget for Marketing and Events
Other related duties as requested by the General Manager

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Marketing, Business Administration or  Communications
Good working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe In Design and Word Press
3-5 years’ experience
Excellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills
Ability to problem solve in an ever changing dynamic
Initiative, accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to use excellent judgement, diplomacy and discretion
Solid understanding of the media industry and its trends and is prepared to make valuable recommendations based on that knowledge.
A passion for creativity
Dedication to achieving results , working with others, maintaining a positive attitude
Excellent organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
