Halifax Public Libraries is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Manager, Marketing and Communications.

In the fall of 2014, we opened the iconic Halifax Central Library, which now serves as a vibrant community hub to thousands of people each day. About the Position
As the Manager, Marketing and Communications, you will develop and implement strategic and tactical marketing and communications plans that optimally communicate Halifax Public Libraries’ brand and information through effective and engaging use of print and digital media with the goal of encouraging community participation with the Library across the municipality.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, you will be responsible for the strategic marketing direction and expression of the Library’s mission and organizational strategy while maintaining the brand identity throughout the organization and our communities. Working in close collaboration with the Branch and Department Managers and others across the organization, you will oversee the branding and development of marketing collateral, both in-house and with third party vendors. As a member of the Web Steering Committee, you will direct the implementation of the Library’s new website.
You will lead a team of marketing and communications professionals to provide excellent service and high quality design to constituents across the organization. As our in-house communications expert with strong creative ability, you will also work closely with the Chief Librarian and CEO and Director, Human Resources, to develop communication activities that build corporate culture, and promote engagement of staff in the Library’s strategic efforts.
The Ideal Candidate
You bring a proven record of accomplishments as a leader in the marketing and communications field. You possess the ability to craft and target content for multiple audiences. You understand the evolving trends influencing the design and web development industries, marketing and communication, social media, and technology services. You have experience with brand based marketing, and are familiar with the best practices to successfully promote the Library and our programs and services across a range of digital and print media. You have a sound understanding of the administration, managerial and financial practices needed to operate the Marketing and Communications department as well as a demonstrated ability to manage up, down, across teams, and work with multiple stakeholders. Your Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Business or equivalent along with 5 years’ experience providing strategic marketing and communication services (with at least 3 years’ managing a team) will equip you with the background and knowledge to provide strategic marketing and communications leadership for the Library.
You are self-motivated, resourceful and have impeccable communication and leadership skills along with superior writing and content creation skills. You are detail oriented and love being part of a team focused on providing excellent services for our community. Your “can do and will do” attitude demonstrates your ability to contribute positively to all corners of the Library.
