Evergreen is a national not-for-profit organization that makes cities more livable. By deepening the connection between people and nature, and empowering Canadians to take a hands-on approach to their urban environments, Evergreen is improving the health of our cities—now and for the future.
At Evergreen, we believe we can solve today’s critical environmental challenges by bringing diverse groups of people together, inspiring them with ideas, and engaging them to take action. We believe it will be in the world’s cities that these challenges must be met.
Evergreen’s programs focus on engaging volunteers in hands-on restoration of sensitive plant and animal habitat in urban areas, maintaining community food gardens, and training everyday Canadians to become informed, responsible advocates for sustainable cities. In the Metro Vancouver areas, much of our current work focuses on the health of our urban watersheds.
An Event Leader will be responsible for managing a variety of events, including components of our Uncover Your Creeks citizen science program and additional activities such as high school environmental education workshops, corporate volunteer events, urban agriculture, youth and community engagement events and leading parts of our City Park Stewards Program in North Vancouver.
The event leader will commit to at least one stewardship event per month, which will require them to represent Evergreen and oversee volunteer activities in one of several municipal parks or community gardens, while providing information about urban ecological issues. Some events will also require event leaders to lead volunteers in water quality monitoring. At all events, the event leader will be responsible for delivering key program content, tracking volunteer participation data, ensuring the health, safety and enjoyment of volunteers and participants and other event-related logistical and volunteer management tasks.
The Event Leaders will report to the relevant Project Coordinator/Manager.
